News websites

By virtue of being a media junkie, i read a lot of news. Prefer to read print but online has taken over the printed word (newsflash)

This morning, i opened the Times of India and Mid-day at work and I had to immediately closed the window lest my colleagues think i am surfing porn.

My issues - why is there a need to post a video clip of Rakhi Sawant kissing someone on the homepage, aren't you the country's leading newspaper. Apparently, carrying the responsibility of starting intelligent dialogue in business, politics and entertainment.

I totally understand India's media Industry is booming and every day new readers join the already large group. Don't newspapers have a responsibility to appeal to underage readers who are spending more time online than with the newsprint. Maybe this is a way to appeal to younger readers, but too morally upright to admit it in the open. Like in the U.S. and U.K you have a gossip mags. Why doesn't Times of India just let Stardust and Cineblitz do their job.

I think its time to pick up a few lessons before the New York Times and WSJ shut shop. I love the content from both publications, even if it is plain fashion, it seems like the reporters always tries to add new perspective, through interviews or sales figures -whatever it may be. The slideshows are worth looking at and not embarassing and this is a from an open culture where showing skin is no sin.

Please Indian media pick up the pace, criticize the politicians, stop selling editorial space and question policy. You do know that Wall Street Journal, Forbes and several other publications are launching/ launched India editions, right?

Introduction

This blog is a writing experiment and a view on New York through the (critical) eyes of a Bangalorean and Bangalore from a New Yorker's (almost there) point of view.

A little about me and why i think this may be an interesting blog to read: I grew up in and around Bangalore, left the state on short college tours to the rest of the country. Made two international trips to neighboring countries which do not count since you don't really need any 'imported' skills there.

Been through the FOB's sense of emptiness and created my own large group of Indians who are now family and non-Indians, some who qualify as family and some just friends.

But generally, I have a point of view and the blog attempts to document it.

I will share my view on travel, people, culture, design, party and food tips
